Claude's lineup in 2026: more plans, more confusion
In 2026, Anthropic significantly expanded its plan offering. Today there are six plan variants: Free, Pro, Max, Team Standard, Team Premium, and Enterprise. On top of this, Claude for Small Business was launched in May 2026 — but it is not a plan. It is a package of features included in existing plans.
The confusion among SME owners is understandable. This article cuts through it: who should choose what, and why.
Pro and Max: for solo workers
Claude Pro costs $17/month with annual billing, $20 without. It includes access to all Claude models, Claude Code, Cowork, advanced research, and Microsoft 365 integration. It is the right plan for the independent professional, consultant, or solo founder.
Claude Max starts at $100/month with a $200 option. The difference from Pro is usage capacity: Max offers 5x or 20x more usage than Pro. It is for those who regularly hit Pro limits — high-volume content producers, developers on complex codebases all day, intensive analytical workflows.
Neither Pro nor Max has centralized administration features. Both are single-seat plans.
Team: the choice for SMEs
Claude Team is the plan designed for businesses. The base cost is $20 per seat per month (annual) with a minimum of 5 seats. A Premium version at $100/month adds 5x more usage and is recommended for technical and high-usage profiles.
What Team includes that Pro does not: centralized billing, an admin panel for users and permissions, single sign-on, connector controls, and no model training on team data.
The 2026 flexibility is the ability to mix Standard and Premium seats in the same account. A 20-person SME might have 3 Premium seats for intensive technical profiles and 17 Standard for the rest, optimizing total cost.

Claude for Small Business: what it actually is
This is the most common point of confusion. Claude for Small Business is not a separate paid plan. It is a package of 15 pre-built agentic workflows and 10+ connectors launched by Anthropic on May 13, 2026, available at no extra cost in Team and Enterprise plans via Claude Cowork.
Connectors include QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365. Workflows cover finance, sales, marketing, operations, HR, and customer service — all pre-configured, no IT team required.
In practice: if you already have a Team plan, you already have access to Claude for Small Business. Nothing extra to buy.
Enterprise: when it becomes necessary
Claude Enterprise has custom pricing and requires a minimum of 50 seats in the sales-assisted version. A self-serve option is available at $20 per seat plus API costs.
Enterprise adds everything Team lacks: SAML/SCIM for automatic user provisioning, full audit logs, Compliance API, custom data retention, data residency options, HIPAA BAA, formal DPA, and granular access controls per team and role.
For most SMEs under 100 employees, these requirements do not exist. Enterprise makes sense when: IT wants to govern access via corporate identity provider, the sector mandates audit trails (finance, healthcare, enterprise legal), or the legal team requires formal contracting with Anthropic.
How to choose: three questions
Three questions to reach the right answer.
First: are you working alone or with a team? If alone, Pro or Max. If there are at least 5 of you, Team.
Second: does anyone on the team use Claude intensively for hours every day (development, long analysis, multi-step workflows)? If yes, those profiles get Premium seats. The others get Standard.
Third: does your sector or IT department require SCIM, audit logs, HIPAA, or a formal DPA? If yes, Enterprise. If no, Team is sufficient.
For 90% of SMEs, the answer is: Team Standard, with a few Premium seats for technical profiles. Claude for Small Business is included at no extra cost.
