The enterprise AI landscape: two philosophies compared
The enterprise AI market is dominated by two main players: OpenAI with ChatGPT and Anthropic with Claude. Both offer advanced language models, but with fundamentally different approaches to security, architecture and enterprise positioning.
Choosing between the two is not just a matter of benchmark performance: it's a strategic decision that impacts data security, operational costs and integration possibilities with existing business systems.
Context window: where Claude makes the difference
One of the most significant differences is the context window. Claude offers up to 200,000 tokens of context — equivalent to approximately 150,000 words or an entire book. This means being able to analyze long documents, compare multiple contracts simultaneously or process complex datasets in a single conversation.
ChatGPT offers more limited context windows in most plans, although GPT-4 Turbo has extended capacity to 128,000 tokens. For companies working with large documents — law firms, consulting, finance — the difference is substantial.
Security and data privacy
Anthropic has made security its founding pillar. Claude is built with the Constitutional AI framework and offers contractual guarantees on not using business data for training. Anthropic's approach to safety has been recognized as one of the most rigorous in the industry.
OpenAI also offers enterprise options with data privacy, but its history has been marked by controversies over data management and policy changes. For companies in regulated sectors — healthcare, finance, legal — Claude offers a more conservative risk profile.
Integrations and ecosystem
ChatGPT has the advantage of a broader ecosystem: plugins, GPT Store, native integration with Microsoft 365 and Azure. For companies already in the Microsoft ecosystem, this represents a significant practical advantage.
Claude responds with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open protocol that enables deep integrations with any business system — CRM, ERP, databases, productivity tools. MCP is more flexible and vendor-neutral, but requires technical expertise for implementation.
Pricing and operational costs
Both providers offer token-based pricing. Claude tends to be more competitive on the quality/price ratio, especially with the Sonnet model which offers excellent performance at contained costs.
For companies with high volumes, choosing the right model — Haiku for simple tasks, Sonnet for the bulk of work, Opus for complex tasks — allows significant cost optimization without sacrificing quality.
Which to choose: our perspective
There is no universal answer. ChatGPT is the natural choice for companies deeply integrated into the Microsoft ecosystem seeking a plug-and-play solution. Claude is the better choice for companies that prioritize data security, extended context and reasoning quality.
Maverick AI primarily works with Claude because we believe that for the Italian enterprise context — where security, compliance and reasoning quality are priorities — Claude offers the best profile. But we're not dogmatic: if your case requires a different approach, we'll tell you upfront.
